John White A. Scott, American 1815-1907
13" x 10" oil on canvas. Unsigned but ascribed to the artist and framed. White mountain view. bio from ask art.com: ohn White Allen Scott, born in Roxbury, Massachusetts, spent his entire career in the Boston area. He apprenticed to lithographer, William Pendleton and later worked with Fitz Henry Lane to produce lithographs. He was a member of the Boston Art Club and exhibited there and at the Boston Athenaeum. Source: Roger King Gallery of Fine Art He served his apprenticeship under the Boston lithographer, William S. Pendleton at the same time as Nathaniel Currier and spent his entire career in and around Boston. In the mid-1840's he was in partnership with Fitz Henry Lane. He exhibited at both the Boston Athenaeum and Boston Art Club and at his death, he was the oldest member of the Boston Art Club. Source: Peter Falk, Who Was Who in American Art
