| Canvas: 75" x 56" Framed: 83" x 64" Charming painting of three children and their dog by the water. Biography from "The Dictionary of Victorian Painters" by Christopher Wood, page 148. "Scottish painter of domestic genre scenes. Younger brother of John Faed. Born in Burley Mill, Kircudbrightshire. Studied with his brother John in Edinburgh, and then with Sir William Allan and Thomas Duncan. Elected ARSA 1849. Settled in London 1852. In 1855 he established his popularity with 'The Mitherless Bairn' which became widely known through engravings. Elected ARA 1859, RA 1864. Exhibited nearly 100 works at the RA between 1851 and 1893. Subjects mainly sentimental scenes of Scottish peasant life - e.g. 'Cottage Piety' (1851), 'Highland Mary' (1856), 'My Ain Fireside' (1859) - or pretty Highland girls. Sometimes collaborated with J.R. Herring Senr. | ||
